Our Story: The Legend of Inailau

The name “Inailau Hut” honors the Samoan proverb “E au le inailau a tama’ita’i.” Long ago, a chief asked his village to build him a hut; the roof’s thatching was split between men and women. The women, working side by side, reached the top first, completing their side of the house before the men. In a literal sense, the proverb means the women’s row of thatch was completed. Metaphorically, it stands for achievement, unity, and collective strength—values at our very core.
